Navigating Masculinity among Heterosexual Men Who Dance with Men (MDM)
The project explores experiences of heterosexual men who dance with other men in social swing settings, including Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing and Modern Jive. Through 40 in-depth interviews and video elicitation-based discussions across the UK, the study examines how participants navigate expectations surrounding masculinity, heterosexuality and traditional dance roles. Its findings contribute to understanding changing masculinities while offering practical insights for dance instructors, organisers and communities seeking to promote inclusive spaces and create less gendered approaches to leading and following.
